Gadar 2, the much-anticipated film starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, has proven to be a roaring success at the box office. Just six days into its theatrical run, the movie has already claimed the position of the second-highest grossing film of the year, overtaking the lifetime earnings of The Kerala Story.
On Independence Day, Gadar 2 made history by raking in a monumental Rs 55.40 crore. Even on the subsequent working Wednesday, the film maintained its momentum, amassing an impressive Rs 34.50 crore in box office collections, as reported by industry tracker Sacnilk. This incredible performance has propelled Gadar 2's total domestic net collection to an astounding Rs 263.48 crore, with an occupancy rate of 56.09% on Wednesday.
Since its release on August 11, Gadar 2 has consistently demonstrated its box office prowess. It kicked off its cinematic journey with an impressive Rs 40.1 crore on its opening day. Despite facing competition from other releases like OMG 2 and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, the film has managed to captivate audiences and secure its position as a major box office contender.
Remarkably, within its debut week in theaters, Gadar 2 has risen to become the second-highest grossing domestic film of the year, trailing only behind Pathaan. According to Bollywood Hungama, Pathaan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, achieved a staggering collection of Rs 543.05 crore in India. With its remarkable performance, Gadar 2 has even surpassed the lifetime earnings of The Kerala Story, which accumulated Rs 242.20 crore.
Directed by Anil Sharma, Gadar 2 is a sequel to the 2001 blockbuster Gadar. The original film stood as one of the highest grossing films of its year. During its release, Gadar faced off against Lagaan, and both movies resonated well with the audience. While Gadar triumphed at the Indian box office, Lagaan garnered international recognition and even secured an Academy Award nomination.
At a press conference celebrating the remarkable success of Gadar 2, Sunny Deol expressed his commitment to crafting quality cinema. He vowed to deliver "good films" akin to Gadar 2, targeting a wider spectrum of audiences. "I promise all my fans that I’m only going to make good films like these. They say films are for the 'masses.' What do you mean by that word? The public is the public, and that includes everyone," he passionately stated.
As Gadar 2 continues to dominate the box office, it's evident that the film's compelling narrative and the star power of Sunny Deol have struck a chord with audiences, solidifying its place as a remarkable cinematic success of the year.
