Has Ram Setu, starring Akshay Kumar, been copied? Historian Threatens Legal Action and Raises Copyright Claims
Ram Setu, a recent movie starring Akshay Kumar, is doing poorly at the box office. In Ram Setu, the director of the Ramayan Study Committee in Sri Lanka claims that his research and life story have been plagiarised without his consent amid the film's chaotic plot. The Ramayan Research Committee in Sri Lanka, which is led by Punjabi historian and department head Ashok Kumar Kainth, has also threatened legal action against the Abhishek Sharma-directed movie.
Ashok claims that the lead character of Ram Setu, Dr. Aryan (Akshay Kumar), is a replica of him and his life narrative. The character in the movie conducted research that was obtained without his consent from his website. Additionally, he said that the figure was telling his life narrative about how he investigated the Ramayan facts in Sri Lanka.
Speaking specifically about this project, which was related to the Ram Setu controversy, Kainth revealed: "The Ramayan trail discovered by them included "Seetha Kotuwa," the palace where Sita was kept before being transferred to the Ashok Vatika, "the Chariot path and Seetha Tear Pond," "Divurumpola," the location where Sita underwent "Agni pariksha," and "Ravana caves," tunnels that are of architectural brilliance and provide easy routes through the hills, the colour of the soil of the ancient battlefield, which is still red today, exotic alpine Himalayan species are found amid the tropical Sri Lankan vegetation, the legacy of Hanuman’s voyage carrying a mountain with life-restoring herbs.”
According to Attorney Satya Sabarwal's legal notice, "In 2007, my client successfully argued before the Supreme Court in favour of the Rama Setu's preservation and protection and had opposed the Government of India's Sethusamudram Ship Channel Project, which called for the destruction of the Rama Setu (which Hindus consider to be sacred). The Supreme Court was happy to issue a stay injunction on August 31, 2007, prohibiting any plans to harm or destroy the Rama Setu. The justification for this was that religion and worship are mandated by the constitution.
The notice continued, "My client is aware that a film, titled Ram Setu, has been shot and is scheduled for release on August 24." "That court proceedings were a crucial component in preventing the Ram Setu from being demolished by previous governments, and if the same is depicted in the addressee's film, then my client has contributed to the film through the court proceedings initiated, and my client is bound to be recognized for the same with the accurate reflection of original facts and the original petitioner's name used anywhere in the film."
