Shashank Manu, a Delhi-based adventurer and frequent traveler to over 70 countries, has made headlines by setting a remarkable Guinness World Record. According to the Indian Express, Manu successfully covered all 286 metro stations in the national capital within a staggering timeframe of 15 hours, 22 minutes, and 49 seconds.
Although he accomplished this feat in 2021, it was only in April 2023 that Manu officially received certification from Guinness World Records. A mix-up during the initial announcement led to the record being mistakenly attributed to Prafull Singh, a revenue inspector with Delhi Metro, who had completed the challenge in 16 hours and 2 minutes.
After several months of discussions and clarifications with the Guinness records team, Shashank Manu was able to rightfully claim the world record achievement.
To complete this monumental task, Shashank Manu strategically utilized a one-day tourist card, which granted him unlimited rides within the extensive Delhi Metro network spanning 348 km. His journey commenced at 5 am on the blue line and concluded at 8:30 pm at the Brigadier Hoshiar Singh station on the green line.
Manu ensured meticulous documentation of his journey, capturing photographs and recording an uncut video as evidence. He also obtained signed forms from fellow passengers to verify his progress. Throughout the entire endeavor, two independent witnesses accompanied him, adhering to Covid-19 protocols as outlined by Guinness guidelines. Additionally, Manu meticulously recorded the opening and closing times of train doors at each station.
Speaking to the Indian Express, Manu revealed that he was inspired to undertake this record-breaking challenge during the Covid-19 pandemic. Following the resumption of metro services after the lockdown, he embarked on this remarkable journey.
Manu aimed not only to achieve a world record but also to highlight the highly efficient and impressive nature of Delhi's metro system. Crafting an itinerary that allowed him to visit all metro stations in the least amount of time was a significant achievement in itself.
In addition to his remarkable metro station record, Shashank Manu holds other notable Guinness World Records, including the "most museums visited in 24 hours" and "most places of worship visited in one month." With a passion for exploring and breaking records, he continues to strive for new challenges and accomplishments.
This incredible achievement by Shashank Manu has drawn attention to the excellence of Delhi's metro system and showcased the determination and perseverance of individuals in their pursuit of world records.
