Diwali restrictions and the prohibition on fireworks in many states

To reduce pollution in advance of Diwali 2022, a number of states, including Delhi, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Haryana, and Punjab, among others, have banned or restricted the usage of fireworks.

At this time of year, we celebrate the triumph of good over evil by lighting our homes with candles and clay lamps. However, prior to Diwali 2022, in order to reduce pollution levels throughout the nation, many Indian governments have outlawed the sale, purchase, and usage of firecrackers.

Beginning with the winter season, pollution levels start to climb, and lighting firecrackers just makes matters worse. As a result, firecrackers are prohibited in many cities. On the other hand, certain localities now permit the purchase and use of green fireworks during Diwali.

 

DO'S AND DON'T OF DIWALI IN INDIA


DELHI

To reduce the amount of noise and air pollution in the state, Delhi has outlawed the production, storage, sale, and bursting of fireworks.

Anyone spotted exploding or selling crackers on Diwali this year faces a fine of Rs 200 to Rs 5,000 and/or a sentence of three years in prison.


MUMBAI

The sale of firecrackers without a permit has been outlawed in Mumbai by the police. Anyone caught selling firecrackers without a permit will face harsh punishment.


CHENNAI

Only green crackers are permitted in the city, and only for two hours, from 6 am to 7 am and from 7 pm to 8 pm, in accordance with the Supreme Court's ruling.

Within four metres of their blast, it is illegal to burst, produce, or sell firecrackers that have a noise level of greater than 125 decibels.

Additionally, Chennai has outlawed the use of any firecrackers made in China. Residents are not permitted to light fireworks close to gas stations, automobiles, or three-wheeler parking areas.

Additionally, smoking has been outlawed in the city near stores that sell crackers.


KOLKATA

In Kolkata and other areas of West Bengal, all firecrackers have been outlawed by the state government, with the exception of green crackers with QR codes.

The firecrackers that will be sold in the market will also be inspected by a team from the police department.


ODISHA

The government of Odisha has permitted the sale and use of firecrackers at seven different locations in Bhubaneswar. Aside from this, there hasn't yet been any formal notification of a ban on the production, sale, or bursting of firecrackers.


CHANDIGARH

The state administration of Punjab has given residents of Chandigarh and other areas of the province a window of two hours during which they may set off green fireworks. occupants are

HARYANA

In an effort to reduce pollution levels, Manohar Lal Khattar, the chief minister of Haryana, has put a blanket ban on the sale, purchase, and usage of pyrotechnics. However, green crackers are permitted.

The National Green Tribunal and the Haryana State Pollution Control Board's (HSPCB) directives were followed in making the decision.


JAIPUR

Jaipur is the place to go if you want to light fireworks with your loved ones to celebrate Diwali. A total of 107 stores in the city have been given permanent licences to sell fireworks.


UTTAR PRADESH

The government of Uttar Pradesh has not outright banned firecrackers, in contrast to several of the other states. Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister, promoted the sale and purchase of eco-friendly firecrackers for Diwali.

He did, however, advise against selling very sensitive firecrackers in urban areas.


PATNA

The Bihar government declared a complete ban on the manufacture, sale, and use of all kinds of firecrackers in Patna, Muzaffarpur, and Gaya.

According to reports, these cities have been designated as National Clean Air Programme non-attainment cities (NCAP). Additionally, green crackers are totally prohibited in these cities, according to the state government.


PUNE

The PMC of Pune has implemented a stringent policy regarding the operation of unauthorised fireworks kiosks in the city.

The decision to allow temporary firecracker stalls in open plots was made by the PMC administration with consideration for the security of the populace.

Stall placement is completely prohibited on public streets, sidewalks, and crowded areas.


AHMEDABAD

This year, Ahmedabad will celebrate the festival of lights with fanfare. According to reports, the authorities have restricted the use and sale of a number of firecrackers and firecracker bundles in the city. According to the authorities, if these firecrackers explode in a crowded area, they can cause traffic accidents. The authorities have given a window of two hours, beginning at 8 p.m. and ending at 10 p.m., for bursting crackers in the city.


JAMMU

No pyrotechnics, crackers, or explosive materials other than those listed by the DM office shall be stored, sold, or used in the city, according to the district magistrate of Jammu.
