Billionaire Elon Musk offered to buy Twitter for about $ 41 billion shortly after declining a seat on the board of social media companies.

The $ 54.20 per share offer price for Mask, disclosed in a regulatory filing Thursday, is equivalent to a 38% premium on Twitter's closing price on March 1.

Since I made my investment, it was clear that the company wouldn't thrive or serve this social demand in its current form. Twitter needs to be transformed into a private company," he said.

My offer is my best and final offer, and if unacceptable, I would have to rethink my position as a shareholder," Musk said. Earlier this week, Musk said he had abandoned plans to join Twitter's board as his term approached. Taking over the board of directors would have prevented him from taking over the company.
