IMD issues an alert for Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal as Cyclone Asani intensifies.

The meteorology department issued an alert for Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, and Odisha after Cyclone Asani strengthened into a severe cyclonic storm on Sunday evening.


On Sunday evening, Cyclone Asani strengthened into a severe cyclonic storm, according to the India Meteorological Department. Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, and Odisha have all been issued a weather warning.

Asani, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal are preparing for the creation of a strong cyclonic storm, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in these states.


Kolkata Municipal Corporation workers and disaster management teams have been placed on high alert. In light of the storm, the KMC has also built up a control room.


On Monday morning, heavy rains accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms pounded Kolkata, flooding many parts of the city. According to news agency PTI, Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim has put his personnel and disaster management teams on high alert due to the formation of cyclonic storm Asani, which is expected to strengthen into a severe cyclone.
