Elon Musk, Twitter's CEO, made the assertion in a series of tweets that Apple threatened to remove Twitter from the App Store without giving a reason.
Elon Musk, the wealthiest person in the world, just became the new owner of Twitter, and he has been putting a lot of effort into analysing the social network's commercial potential and coming up with ways to make some money with it.
To such an extent that the Chief Executive Officer of Twitter has taken aim at Apple, a multinational technology company with headquarters in Cupertino, for terminating its advertising on the social network.
On Monday, the 51-year-old billionaire rushed to Twitter to criticise Apple, claiming that the company had "largely ceased advertising on Twitter." He was referring to Apple's practise of promoting its products via the social media platform.
Musk went on to inquire if Apple "hates free speech" in the United States.
"Apple has mostly stopped advertising on Twitter. Do they hate free speech in America?" Musk published his thoughts on Twitter, where he has amassed a following of more than 119 million users.
However, Musk did not end his actions there. In addition to that, he brought Apple CEO Tim Cook into the discussion.
"What's going on here, Tim Cook?" Musk asked in another tweet.
Musk isn't very happy about the fact that Apple and Google are currently inspecting Twitter in great detail as part of their app review processes, as can be expected.
Just a few days ago, a Twitter user asked Musk if he would consider producing his own smartphone if Apple and Google were to boot Twitter from their respective app stores. Musk confirmed that this was something he was considering in response to the question.
Musk has stated that he hopes it doesn't come to that, but that if it does, he will have no choice but to create an alternative phone because he has no other choice.
Since then, the CEO of Twitter has published a number of new criticisms directed at Apple. Musk has asked Apple to publish all censorship actions that it has taken that affect its customers in one of the tweets that he has sent out.
The CEO of Tesla, who describes himself as an absolutist in the cause of free speech, had earlier disclosed that Twitter had seen a "massive" drop in revenue and blamed activist groups for pressuring advertisers. He attributed this decline to pressure from activist groups. Twitter generates approximately 90% of its revenue from advertising sales.
