Updated: Aug 22, 2023

The Mumbai Indians have now hired Pollard, who made his MI debut back in 2010, to serve as their batting coach.

Kieron Pollard, a player with the Mumbai Indians, made his IPL retirement announcement on Tuesday. Just hours before the 2023 retention deadline, he made his statement. The choice to continue playing for a few more years wasn't taken easily, according to Pollard, who has scored 3412 IPL runs in 189 games. But, he continued, "I understand that this fantastic franchise, which has accomplished so much, needs to evolve.

Pollard stated that he cannot envision himself competing against the Mumbai Indians (MI) if he does not play for the MI. He declared, "Once a MI, always a MI."

The Mumbai Indians have now hired Pollard, who made his MI debut back in 2010, to serve as their batting coach. Additionally, he will represent MI in the first International League T20 in the United Arab Emirates.

According to Pollard, his next phase of work will allow him to switch from playing to coaching.

"I am very happy, honoured, and lucky to have represented the biggest and most successful team in the IPL for the past 13 seasons," the 35-year-old continued. It was always my goal to be a member of this outstanding squad, and although I will miss the excitement of the IPL as a player, I find solace in the fact that I got to compete against some of the finest players in the world in front of a cheering crowd. Both on and off the field, I have always felt and appreciated their unwavering support. We shared victories in the IPL in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020 as well as the Champions League in 2011 and 2013.

Mrs Nita M. Ambani, the owner of the Mumbai Indians, showered admiration on Pollard for his outstanding career as a player and wished him luck in his current endeavour as a batting instructor.

"Polly leaves left a significant legacy as a player with Mumbai Indians," stated Mr Akash Ambani. Every time he entered the field, the crowd cheered. He played the beautiful game of cricket with the utmost commitment and enthusiasm throughout his IPL career with us. He was a treasured member of the MI family and a terrific friend. We are happy that Polly will continue to play for MI Emirates and coach the batting for the Mumbai Indians. We are confident that Polly will be a vibrant and effective coach, just as he was for us on the field. Although the Mumbai Indians, Wankhede Stadium, and the Paltan will miss him playing on the pitch, his thoughts will be essential to the squad.”
