On Tuesday, on the margins of the G20 conference taking place in this city, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak of the United Kingdom held their first casual encounters and shared opinions on a variety of problems. The meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was the first face-to-face encounter between the two leaders since Prime Minister Modi took office one month ago.

 

Beginning on December 1, 2022, India will take up the presidency of the G20 for a period of one year. The Group of Twenty is composed of the following nations: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and the European Union (EU).

 

This is the first time that the two leaders have really spoken to one another in person. Earlier, in the month of October, Prime Minister Modi and Sunak had a phone conversation during which they discussed the significance of quickly reaching "a balanced and comprehensive" Free Trade Agreement between the two nations.

 

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, arrived in Bali on Monday and had meetings with the President of the Republic of Senegal, Macky Sall, the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, and the Vice President of the United States, Joe Biden.

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, gave a speech earlier today at a G20 working session on Food and Energy Security. In his speech, he reaffirmed India's long-standing position in favour of dialogue and diplomacy in Ukraine and said, "'We have to find a way to return to the path of the ceasefire.'" In Kyiv, he said, "We have to find a way to return to the path of the ceasefire."

PM Modi added that he is convinced that when the G20 gathers the next year, they would all agree to deliver a powerful message of peace to the rest of the globe. He referred to India as the "holy country of Buddha and Gandhi" in making his statement.
