Popular Pakistani Journalist Arshad Sharif killed in Kenya.

The Kenyan police believe that the police shooting of Pakistani investigative journalist Arshad Sharif was due to a case of mistaken identity.

Tensions in the neighbouring nation have risen following the killing of Pakistani investigative journalist Arshad Sharif in Kenya. Kenyan police allege that it was a case of mistaken identity when Sharif was fatally shot. Thoughts of an ISI hit have been raised because he left Pakistan after a contentious interview with a PTI leader.

The number of journalists dead while performing their jobs throughout the years in various parts of the world is growing, and Sharif's passing adds to that list. Take Mexico as an example, where more than a dozen journalists have been assassinated just this year, some at the hands of cartels and others at the hands of alleged police enforcement.

In crisis zones, whether in the Middle East, Africa, or the ongoing battle in Russia and Ukraine, journalists also lose their lives and limbs.

The "International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists" has been declared by the United Nations on November 2.

According to UNESCO statistics, 1,564 journalists have died worldwide since 1993. A total of 956 journalists worldwide lost their lives between 2011 and 2021. In the same time frame, 2,653 other journalists were detained. According to this, two journalists are imprisoned every third day and one journalist is assassinated every fourth day.

In August, the ARY channel, where Sharif had spent the preceding eight years working, was briefly pulled off the air for broadcasting "false, vile, and scandalous" material. The journalist, who was one of its top prime-time news anchors, was fired, the station revealed in late August.

In a statement, the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its "grief" over Arshad Sharif's passing and added that they were in contact with Kenyan authorities about the matter.

The ministry announced that the body had been located at the Chiromo Funeral Home in Nairobi, and that the Pakistani ambassador to Kenya and other embassy representatives had identified it. They are now awaiting additional steps and a police report.
