Prime Minister Narendra Modi Inaugurates Rajkot International Airport and Unveils Development Projects in Gujarat

On July 27, 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked a historic moment for Gujarat as he inaugurated the state's first greenfield airport, Rajkot International Airport, located in Hirasar village, approximately 30 km from Rajkot. This significant infrastructure project was completed at a cost of Rs 1,405 crore and spans an impressive 1,500 acres out of the total 2,534 acres of the site.

During the inauguration ceremony, PM Modi also unveiled several other development works in Rajkot, solidifying the government's commitment to enhancing the region's infrastructure and progress.

Rajkot International Airport: A Greenfield Marvel

The newly constructed Rajkot International Airport boasts a 3,040-meter-long (3.04 km) and 45-meter-wide runway, which can accommodate the parking of up to 14 aircraft simultaneously. This state-of-the-art airport is a testament to India's growing aviation sector and will play a crucial role in boosting regional connectivity and economic growth.

Groundbreaking Ceremony and Technical Inspection

The vision for Rajkot International Airport was set in motion in October 2017, when PM Modi performed the groundbreaking ceremony at Hirasar village, signaling the commencement of this ambitious project. After the inauguration, the Prime Minister took a walk through the airport premises and familiarized himself with the technical aspects of the facility, engaging in discussions with officials.

Solidarity with Disaster-Affected Families

In his address during the inauguration, PM Modi expressed his empathy towards families who endured losses caused by natural disasters such as cyclones and floods. He lauded the collective efforts of the state government and its citizens in overcoming these challenges and reassured them of the Centre's unwavering support in restoring normalcy and recovery.

Developmental Projects in Rajkot

In addition to the airport inauguration, Prime Minister Modi dedicated packages 8 and 9 of the Saurashtra Narmada Avtaran Irrigation (SAUNI) Yojana from the venue. This irrigation scheme, initiated to address water scarcity in the Saurashtra region, aims to channelize water from the Narmada River to various reservoirs, benefiting farmers and boosting agricultural productivity.

The Race Course Ground in Rajkot city witnessed a gathering of enthusiastic attendees, eagerly anticipating the Prime Minister's address. PM Modi's visit to Gujarat for a two-day tour demonstrates the government's commitment to the state's overall development and prosperity.
