Sunetra Pawar Files Nomination Papers for Rajya Sabha Seat

Sunetra Pawar

Sunetra Pawar, wife of NCP president and deputy CM Ajit Pawar, has filed her nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha seat. The filing was done in the presence of NCP leaders Ajit Pawar, Praful Patel, Sunil Tatkare, and Chhagan Bhujbal. Notably, no senior leaders from the Shiv Sena or BJP were present.

Praful Patel addressed the absence of allied party leaders, suggesting it was due to the by-election nature of the process. He mentioned, "We did not invite them, but we did inform them about the candidature of Sunetra Pawar."

The decision to nominate Sunetra was made during a core group meeting attended by Ajit Pawar, Tatkare, and Bhujbal, with Patel stating it was a consensus choice and a foregone conclusion that she would be elected unopposed.

However, some NCP MLAs expressed dissatisfaction over Sunetra's selection, feeling other contenders like Chhagan Bhujbal were sidelined. One MLA noted, "After her defeat in Baramati during the Lok Sabha election, we felt Ajit Pawar should have picked a senior leader to send a positive signal to the functionaries and workers."

Sunetra Pawar, a commerce graduate, and her husband Ajit Pawar have declared property worth Rs 123 crore.
