The world's longest passenger train is now located in Switzerland.

The Swiss Alps are covered by the 1.2-mile-long world's longest passenger railway.

The train is 1910 metres long, includes 100 carriages, and has 4,550 seats. On October 29, 2022, a train could be observed travelling across the Swiss Alps' steep terrain.

Although there are longer freight trains, the Rhaetian Railway claimed to have broken the record for the longest passenger train. At a celebration honouring the 175th anniversary of Switzerland's railway system, it was unveiled.

150 people travelled aboard the train during its journey. It turned through brilliant sunshine that was reflected from its gleaming ceiling of silver. Additionally, the front of the train has a digital destination sign that reads "Alpine Cruise." It travelled the breathtaking Albula-Bernina route, which is protected by the UNESCO World Heritage list. From Preda to Alvaneu, the path travelled about 25 kilometres in less than 45 minutes. On the journey, it spanned 48 bridges and through 22 helical tunnels.

The train was driven by seven train drivers and twenty-one technicians as it travelled along the well-known Albula-Bernina route, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, from Preda's Albula Tunnel to Filisur's Landwasser Viaduct, concluding in Bergün.

The National Belgian Railway Company reportedly achieved the previous record in Belgium in 1991.

The historic railway is described by UNESCO as an "excellent technical, architectural and environmental ensemble" that "embodies architectural and civil engineering achievements, in harmony with the landscapes they pass through."
