Suchana Seth, the 39-year-old CEO of Mindful AI Lab, an artificial intelligence startup, has been arrested by Goa Police in connection with the murder of her four-year-old son. The arrest took place in Chitradurga, Karnataka, on Sunday night, with the motive behind the tragic incident still unknown. Suchana Seth, recognized for her contributions to AI ethics, has an extensive background in the field, as highlighted on her LinkedIn page. She was named among the '100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics for 2021' and boasts over 12 years of experience in mentoring data science teams and scaling machine learning solutions at startups and industry research labs. Her profile describes her as an AI ethics expert and data scientist, with previous affiliations as a Mozilla Fellow at Data & Society, a fellow at the Berkman Klein Centre at Harvard University, and a research fellow at the Raman Research Institute. Additionally, she holds patents in natural language processing. Superintendent of Police (North) Nidhin Valsan revealed that Suchana Seth, originally from West Bengal, has been residing in Bengaluru, while her estranged husband, Venkat Raman, is currently in Indonesia and has been informed about the incident. On January 6, Suchana Seth checked into a rented service apartment in North Goa's Candolim with her son. After a couple of days, she informed the apartment staff of her intention to travel to Bengaluru for work and requested a taxi. Despite staff suggestions to take a cheaper flight, she insisted on a taxi and left for Bengaluru on January 8. Upon cleaning the rented room, staff discovered bloodstains on a towel, prompting them to inform Calangute Police. The police contacted Seth, inquiring about the bloodstains and her son's whereabouts. Seth claimed the bloodstains were due to her monthly periods and provided a fake address in Margao town, South Goa, where she alleged her son was with a friend. Calangute Police, suspecting foul play, collaborated with Fatorda Police to verify the address, finding it to be false. Contacting the taxi driver, who had reached Chitradurga, Karnataka, police discovered the body of Seth's son in her bag. A Calangute Police team obtained a transit remand for the accused, who was being brought back to Goa. Authorities have informed Venkat Raman about the incident, and the investigation is ongoing.
