Bhindi Masala Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 500 grams of okra (bhindi), washed and chopped

  • 2 tablespoons oil

  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds

  • 1 large onion, finely chopped

  • 2 tomatoes, finely chopped

  • 2 green chilies, slit

  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste

  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder

  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder

  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder

  • 1 teaspoon garam masala

  • Salt to taste

  • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Okra:

    • Wash the okra thoroughly and dry them completely using a kitchen towel. Chop off the ends and cut the okra into 1-inch pieces.

  2. Cook the Okra:

    • Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large pan or skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped okra and sauté for 8-10 minutes until they are tender and slightly crispy. Remove the okra from the pan and set aside.

  3. Prepare the Masala:

    • In the same pan, heat the remaining 1 tablespoon of oil. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.

    • Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.

    • Add the ginger-garlic paste and green chilies. Cook for another 2 minutes until the raw smell disappears.

  4. Add the Spices:

    • Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they become soft and mushy.

    • Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes until the oil starts to separate from the masala.

  5. Combine Okra with Masala:

    • Add the sautéed okra to the masala and mix well to ensure the okra is evenly coated with the spices.

    • Cook for an additional 5-7 minutes on low heat, stirring occasionally, until the okra is fully cooked and the flavors are well combined.

  6. Finish and Garnish:

    • Sprinkle garam masala over the cooked bhindi and mix well.

    • Garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves.

  7. Serve:

    • Serve hot with roti, paratha, or rice. Bhindi Masala also pairs well with a side of yogurt or raita.

Enjoy this flavorful and nutritious Bhindi Masala, perfect for a quick and satisfying meal!
