CM will create 6 'high-tech' towns, startup park in Karnataka
The Chief Minister of Karnataka, Basavaraj Bommai, said during his opening statement at the 25th edition of the Bengaluru Tech Summit that the state would construct six new "high-tech" communities as well as a specialised "startup park."
Near the areas of Kalaburagi, Mysuru, Mangaluru, Hubballi-Dharwad, and Bengaluru will be where the six new "high-tech" towns would be constructed.
The announcement comes as the state is attempting to persuade investors to go beyond Bengaluru, which is often referred to as "India's Silicon Valley," while simultaneously fuelling its tech-driven future. The subject matter was front and centre at the recently finished Global Investors' Meet, which resulted in ninety percent of investments being directed toward areas outside of Bengaluru.
"The city near Bengaluru will be very close to the airport and will be well-planned and will have the best universities and R&D centres," Bommai said, adding that the detailed plan for the new cities will be unveiled in six months' time. Bommai said in his speech that the "startup park" would be a "multi-modal" one that caters to embryonic businesses across sectors and will also be established close to the Bengaluru airport. Bommai's speech lasted for a total of 15 minutes.
According to the forecasts of Accel Partner Prashanth Prakash, this comes at a time when at least 25 of India's 100 unicorns are projected to register for public listing on stock markets.
In his remarks, CM Bommai emphasised how important it is for the technology industry to maintain a culture of sustainable innovation.
The world is becoming smaller, and there are fewer people living on it every year. The availability of resources is decreasing minute by minute. It is really concerning," he added, adding that the present rate of expansion is sometimes referred to as "taking from the future."
According to what he had to say, "therefore, whatever technology and whatever breakthroughs there are, their purpose should be to preserve for the future, connect so that global thinking begins to rescue our planet," and "break down the digital gap that is occurring throughout the globe."
He made a plea to creative thinkers, urging them to concentrate on developing sustainable solutions.
Bommai made the following proclamation: "I offer a call that we will have eco-friendly tech, eco-friendly inventions, and eco-economies."
Earlier on in the event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged global innovators to invest in India by declaring, in a recorded address that was played throughout the ceremony, "India is no longer a land renowned for red tape, but is now recognised for the red carpet for investment." In addition to this, he said that India has democratised the field of technology, which was formerly considered to be a closed system.
"In India, technology is a force of equality and empowerment...India is using technology as a weapon in the struggle against poverty," stated Modi. "India is utilising technology as a weapon in the war against poverty."
