Apple fries are a delicious and healthy alternative to traditional potato fries. They are easy to make and can be a great snack or dessert option. Here's a simple recipe for making apple fries:

Ingredients:

  • 2 large apples (any variety you prefer)

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup cold water

  • Vegetable oil for frying

  • Cinnamon sugar (optional, for coating)


Instructions:


1. Prepare the apples:

  • Wash the apples thoroughly and pat them dry with a clean towel.

  • Peel the apples if desired, although leaving the skin on can add extra nutrients and texture to the apple fries.

  • Core the apples and cut them into thin, fry-like strips. You can use a sharp knife or a mandoline slicer to get even, thin slices.


2. Make the batter:

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and salt.

  • Gradually add the cold water to the dry ingredients, whisking until you have a smooth batter. The batter should be thick enough to coat the apple slices.


3. Heat the oil:

  • In a deep frying pan or a pot, add enough vegetable oil to submerge the apple fries.

  • Heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches a temperature of around 350°F (175°C).


4. Coat the apple slices:

  • Dip the apple slices into the batter, ensuring they are evenly coated on all sides.


5. Fry the apple slices:

  • Carefully place the coated apple slices into the hot oil in batches. Do not overcrowd the pan; fry in batches to ensure they cook evenly.

  • Fry the apple slices for about 2-3 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crispy.

  • Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried apple slices from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.


6. Optional cinnamon sugar coating:

  • If you want to add extra sweetness and flavor, you can toss the warm apple fries in a mixture of cinnamon and sugar after they are done frying.


7. Serve and enjoy:

  • Serve the apple fries immediately while they are still warm and crispy.

  • You can enjoy them on their own or with a dipping sauce of your choice, such as caramel sauce, chocolate sauce, or even whipped cream.
