Homemade Japanese Egg Sandwich Recipe for Indian Kitchens

Japanese cuisine is known for its delicate flavors and meticulous presentation, and one dish that exemplifies this is the Japanese Egg Sandwich, or Tamago Sando. This delectable sandwich has gained popularity worldwide for its simplicity and deliciousness. If you're in India and craving the taste of Japan, fear not! In this article, we'll guide you through the steps to create an authentic Japanese Egg Sandwich in the comfort of your Indian kitchen.

Ingredients:

  • 4 large eggs

  • 4 slices of white bread (you can use brown bread if preferred)

  • 2 tablespoons Japanese mayonnaise (or regular mayonnaise)

  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce

  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar

  • A pinch of salt and black pepper

  • Butter (for spreading on the bread)

Instructions:

Step 1: Boiling the Eggs

  • Place the eggs in a saucepan and cover them with water.

  • Bring the water to a boil over medium heat.

  • Once boiling, reduce the heat and let the eggs simmer for about 8-10 minutes.

  • Afterward, remove the eggs from the heat and place them in a bowl of cold water to cool down.

Step 2: Preparing the Egg Filling

  • Peel the cooled eggs and finely chop them with a knife or use an egg slicer for even slices.

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the chopped eggs, Japanese mayonnaise (or regular mayonnaise), soy sauce, sugar, salt, and black pepper.

  • Gently mix all the ingredients until well combined, ensuring not to mash the eggs too much.

Step 3: Assembling the Sandwich

  • Take two slices of bread and spread a thin layer of butter on one side of each slice. This step will keep the bread from becoming soggy due to the egg filling.

  • Divide the egg filling evenly between the two slices, spreading it onto the buttered side of the bread.

  • Place the two slices together, with the egg filling in the middle.

Step 4: Cutting and Serving

  • Trim the crusts off the sandwich, creating a clean edge.

  • Cut the sandwich into desired shapes, such as triangles or rectangles, for an authentic presentation.

  • Your Japanese Egg Sandwich is now ready to be served!

Optional Variations:

  • To add a hint of freshness, you can incorporate thinly sliced cucumbers or lettuce leaves into the sandwich.

  • For an extra umami kick, you can include a few drops of Japanese Worcestershire sauce or a sprinkle of furikake seasoning in the egg filling.
