Romina Pourmokhtari, a 26-year-old , will serve as Sweden's new government's Climate Minister.

Romina Pourmokhtari, 26, formerly served as the head of the Liberal party's youth wing but has not previously been associated with any political positions on climate change.

The youngest person to head a ministry in Greta Thunberg's native Sweden, Romina Pourmokhtari, 26, was appointed as the Climate Minister by the country's new administration recently.

Newly elected Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, who heads a right-wing coalition supported by the far-right Sweden Democrats, proposed the nomination as one of the Cabinet members.

The 26-year-old Romina Pourmokhtari, who previously oversaw the Liberal Party's youth section, is not well known for her stances on climate change.

The young Minister has previously been a vocal opponent of Kristersson's decision to more closely connect his party with the Sweden Democrats (SD).

SD-Absolutely sans Ulf Kristersson In a tweet from 2020, she stated, "I wrote to Ulf Kristersson with SD-No thanks."

Romina was born in a Stockholm suburb to an Iranian family, inherits the climate and environment responsibilities, and breaks the previous record for the youngest minister, which stood at 27 years old.

Teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg, who started a large global campaign with millions of teenagers and sparked a torrent of discussion on the dangers of climate change, is also a resident of Sweden.

Friday saw the announcement of Sweden's coalition government after Kristersson negotiated a deal with his allies and the nationalist, anti-immigration Sweden Democrats, who agreed to support the government in exchange for commitments to certain policies, particularly those relating to crime and immigration.

As the nation faces tensions with Russia, Kristersson also disclosed the creation of a new minister position for "civil defense" when introducing the Cabinet.

The Social Democrats, who have dominated Swedish politics since the 1930s, the Sweden Democrats were the election's biggest winners and the second-largest party. Tensions have been created within the Liberal Party, whose support is also crucial for Kristersson's survival, as a result of the Swedish Democrats' substantial influence over the four-party agreement.
